The first conference day of the EUROVISIONS International Conference 2026 will feature a special presentation of the new scholarly volume Tourism, Events and Leisure Perspectives on the Eurovision Song Contest, edited by Dr. Oscar Vorobjovas-Pinta and Dr. Jack Shepherd.

The publication brings together international perspectives on Eurovision as a cultural, social, and media phenomenon, exploring how the contest shapes tourism, fan cultures, urban identity, leisure practices, and public life across Europe and beyond. The volume demonstrates how Eurovision has evolved far beyond a television show into an important field of interdisciplinary academic research.

Oscar Vorobjovas-Pinta, Senior Lecturer at Edith Cowan University in Australia, is known for his work on tourism, festivals, inclusive communities, and LGBTQ+ cultural experiences. Together with Jack Shepherd, Senior Lecturer in Tourism Studies at Mid-Sweden University, whose research focuses on tourism, politics, peacebuilding, and Eurovision culture, he has assembled a volume that reflects the growing relevance of Eurovision within tourism, event, and leisure studies.

Among the contributions is also a chapter by members of the Eurovisions team examining volunteer work and participation in the Eurovision Song Contest through the lens of public value and public service broadcasting.

The presentation offers a unique opportunity to discover new academic perspectives on Eurovision and to reflect on how the contest continues to inspire research far beyond music alone.

Conference visitors will also have the opportunity to purchase the volume on-site with a special Eurovisions discount.
