We are excited to welcome Gunvor, the Swiss singer and Eurovision 1998 representative, as a panelist at the Eurovisions International Conference 2025! On May 14, she will take part in the roundtable discussion on "(Un)Fairness in Eurovision", sharing her personal experiences and insights on fairness in the music industry.

Gunvor: A Journey Through Music and Dance

Gunvor’s artistic path began not with singing, but with tap dance! Before stepping into the world of music, she was a 7-time Swiss Champion in tap dancing and even ranked 5th in the World Championships in 1994.

However, music was always her true calling. After winning "Das Goldene Mikrofon" and "Der Goldene Scheinwerfer" in 1997, she took a major step forward in her career—winning the Swiss national selection for Eurovision! In 1998, she represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham with her self-composed song "Lass ihn".

Since then, Gunvor’s career has expanded into musical theater, songwriting, and music production. She performed in the musical "Hair", founded her own music label RMGM, and collaborates with Hollywood-based producer Jens Gad.

Gunvor on Fairness in Music

Gunvor has experienced both the glamour and the challenges of the music business, making her an ideal voice for our discussion on fairness in Eurovision and the industry at large. Ahead of the conference, she gave us a short interview on the topic of fairness:

🔹 What does fairness mean to you?

Fairness should be present in all aspects of life. I need to be able to trust the person I am dealing with, whether it is a business partner, a colleague, or a family member. Fairness is about actively listening, showing respect, and valuing the ideas and thoughts of others.

🔹 Can you recall a moment when you experienced exceptional fairness in your career?

I experience fairness every time I perform and receive a warm welcome from both the event host and the audience. These moments of appreciation are an important expression of fairness in my career.

🔹 What do you see as unfair in the music business?

One of the biggest unfair aspects of the music business is the low percentage of female artists played on the radio. The representation of women in music broadcasting is far too low, and this needs to change.

🔹 Have you ever been unfair yourself?

I sincerely hope not!

🔹 What can we all do to promote more fairness?

We should all take a moment to ask ourselves: How would I want to be treated? If we apply that same standard to how we interact with others, fairness will naturally follow.

Gunvor’s personal experiences and insights will add valuable perspectives to our roundtable on (Un)Fairness in Eurovision. Don’t miss the discussion on May 14 at the University of Basel!
